English for Work

This course is designed for elementary to pre-intermediate learners of English. It helps you to speak and understand in real situations, so the level of some of the listening tasks is higher than the speaking or grammar tasks. In real situations you need to understand more English than you use yourself.

The course follows Tom as he looks for a new job.

In the course you will practise:

Speaking - you copy the teachers and improve your pronunciation and your intonation.

Listening - you have to listen carefully in all your lessons. Sometimes you have to understand the teachers, who speak carefully for you, but sometimes you have to listen to people speaking in real situations. They often speak more quickly, and you learn to understand real English. You also have listening comprehension exercises to do.

Grammar - in this course you will study the present and past tenses, and the basic grammar you need to speak accurate English. For more details, see the weekly summary below.

Vocabulary - this course focuses on the language of jobs and careers.

Writing - you practise punctuation and writing in sentences.

Reading - you practise reading aloud in the lessons, and do some reading comprehension exercises for your homework.
